I would like to start out by thanking everyone for doing their best this past season to follow all of the COVID-19 protocols and restrictions to make sure our girls could be out on the ice this entire time.
I would like to recognize all of the volunteers who helped out since last September to make this as normal of a hockey season as possible. Those people include all of the Covid screeners den moms and trainers. I would especially like to thank Kayla Ford, Dave Kerr, Bill Raney, Matt Jarmin, George Lazarakos, Mark Ford, and Rick Baker. These coaches signed up to coach a normal hockey season in the spring of 2020 and instead had to adjust their plans as well as quickly adopt to the new guidelines around what hockey would look like during the COVID-19 pandemic. I can’t express how well they handled anything and everything that we threw at them. It is thanks to these coaches and their bench staff that allowed our girls to play 3-on-3 all year!
As we start to plan for the 2021-2022 season we are unsure of how things will look. At this time the OWHA is not allowing any tryouts, permission to skates or releases. However we will have a new season starting up on September 1st 2021. We are accepting coaching applications up until March 31st and coaches will be selected by the end of the first week of April. Although the future is unknown we are hoping to have a more normal season in the fall and look forward to icing IP, as well as, rep programs from U9 through to U18.. We are also anticipating having multiple teams at each level. Please be patient and check back on our website throughout the summer for any updates that we may have from the OWHA.
Our current season will continue to run until the end of April. It is with great sadness that we will have to once again cancel our annual Napanee Crunch banquet. I would like to wish our seven U18 players, who will be skating for the last time as a Napanee Crunch player next month, all the best as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
